You will be sent URLs by users, consultants and support, and being able to read one tells you which environment, which account, which region and which generation of platform you are looking at. The current pattern component by component, the test suffix that tells you at a glance whether someone is about to do something to production, the predecessor pattern some customers remain on, and the application context including the legacy forms still in old bookmarks. The habit to build: before you act on any URL someone sends you, read it and confirm which environment it is. It takes three seconds and it has prevented a great many bad afternoons.
