Parameters, defaults and the date trap

A parameter defaulting to "today" behaves differently at 23:59 than at 09:00. That sentence is the trap, and it is the commonest scheduling defect in this course. Interactively, "today" is the day you are standing there. Scheduled at 00:05 on the first of the month, "today" is the first — and a report meant to cover the previous month covers one day of the new one, or nothing at all. RELATIVE DATES ARE THE FIX, and they must be expressed relative to the RUN, not to a fixed value. "The first day of the previous month" and "the last day of the previous month" are correct whenever the job runs. "01-Feb to 28-Feb" is correct once.
