Descriptive and extensible flexfields

Flexfields add DATA rather than changing layout, which is the distinction from Page Composer and the reason they are the more consequential tool. A descriptive flexfield adds attributes to an existing object — a few extra fields on an invoice, a supplier, an assignment. An extensible flexfield adds structured, repeatable groups, for cases where one extra row is not enough. Both are supported extension points that survive updates, which is why Module 1 calls extensions safer than reports. HOW THEY REACH REPORTS is the question to answer BEFORE creating one. A flexfield is not automatically visible everywhere: it has to be enabled for the contexts you need, and its availability in subject areas and in interfaces depends on that configuration. A field somebody fills in for a year and cannot report on is a field that did not need to exist, and that is the commonest flexfield failure. WHY THEY
