Visual Builder: where it fits

When an extension outgrows configuration, Visual Builder is the supported next step — and a much larger commitment. Both halves of that sentence matter. SUPPORTED is the important word. VB is Oracle's own extension platform for Fusion: it is the sanctioned route to a custom user interface, it integrates with Fusion's security and services, and it does not put you outside the contract Module 1 describes. WHAT THE COMMITMENT INCLUDES, stated plainly because it is usually understated in the conversation where VB is proposed. It is application development: a codebase, a build, source control, environments, a release process. It needs developers rather than configurers — a different skill set from everything else in this course. It has its own upgrade cycle and its own regression testing, on top of Fusion's. And it needs an owner after go-live, because unlike a flexfield it will not simply keep working while nobody looks…
