Two roles that share a database and ALMOST NOTHING ELSE. What the application tier adds, and why A GOOD CORE DBA CAN STILL BE LOST IN AN EBS ESTATE. A core DBA administers a database. Instances, storage, backup and recovery, performance, security. Every one of those is in this course too, because an Apps DBA is a DBA. WHAT THE APPLICATION TIER ADDS IS AN ENTIRE SECOND SYSTEM WITH ITS OWN RULES. Application servers, a forms and reports layer, the concurrent manager, a file system holding hundreds of thousands of files, a context file that generates the configuration, AutoConfig that regenerates it, and a patching mechanism that touches the database and the file system in one operation.
