What it is for: connecting the cloud estate to on-premises data sources that are not otherwise reachable. The typical use case: pulling data from an internal database or an on-premises system DIRECTLY, rather than exporting to a file and moving the file. What it means for you: another component to deploy, keep in support, secure, and monitor. It sits inside the network and reaches out. AN AGENT INSIDE THE CORPORATE NETWORK WITH AN OUTBOUND CONNECTION TO A CLOUD SERVICE IS SOMETHING THE SECURITY TEAM WILL WANT TO DISCUSS. Bring them in early. Not because it is a problem, but because finding out about it late makes it one. Scope: configuring integrations is a data integration topic. Understanding that the agent exists, what it is for, and what it costs you operationally — that is this course's remit.
