Connection types and URL syntax

Two connection types, same data. A shared connection is derived from the environment URL and presents the available providers. A private connection points directly at a specific provider, for a specific business process. And here is the part people get wrong. Both are derived from the environment URL by substituting the application context. The shared form uses one substitution. THE PRIVATE FORM USES A DIFFERENT SUBSTITUTION PER BUSINESS PROCESS FAMILY. Narrative Reporting, Profitability and Cost Management, and the Planning-family processes each differ. Why it matters. A private connection built with the wrong context fails with an unhelpful message — and the fix is invisible unless you know the pattern.
