The three flexfields

Three flexfields, and nothing in Assets works until all three exist and are deployed. The asset key flexfield is the grouping and tracking key; configure at least one segment, and note that many clients use it minimally. The category flexfield is usually two segments, major and minor category, and it drives the depreciation defaults. The location flexfield is where the asset physically is: country, state, city, building. Deploy all three — and the lesson shows what happens if you proceed without deploying. Three flexfields, all mandatory, all of which must be deployed. That is the answer to "why can I not create an asset", and it is the first thing to check rather than the last. Design the category structure against the client's actual asset register rather than generically, because it drives default depreciation for everything that follows.
