Two other template types, each for a job RTF does badly. AN EXCEL TEMPLATE is for output somebody will WORK IN. Not look at — work in: filter, pivot, add a column, send to a colleague. If the recipient's first action is to copy your PDF into a spreadsheet, you built the wrong thing. The template controls sheet names, column formats and where the repeating block starts, and the important discipline is to keep the output a clean data region — no merged cells, no decorative header rows above the data — because every one of those breaks the pivot table the recipient is about to build. AN eTEXT TEMPLATE is for a fixed-format file a machine reads, and it is the only template type where a single wrong character means a rejected file.
