Implementing Manufacturing and Materials Management: From Empty Plant to Costed Work Order · Module 1 · The SCM Landscape

Navigating the work areas

Lesson 9 of 188 · 11 min

Tour the home page and navigator. Open Product Information Management — and note immediately that items are created there, not in Setup and Maintenance. Open Work Definition and Work Execution, then Inventory Management and Cost Accounting. Demonstrate the change organization control and why every manufacturing page has one, then show the Tasks pane pattern that recurs across every work area. The organization context is the single most important thing on the screen. Nearly every page operates in the context of one inventory organization or plant, and looking at the wrong one produces confusing, wrong, entirely believable answers. That last word is the problem — nothing errors. Check it first, every time. Items live in Product Information Management. Worth saying twice: people hunt for them in the setup area for twenty minutes, and they blame themselves rather than the navigation.
