Scheduling refreshes around a project

Lesson 161 of 177 · 2 min

When a refresh helps and when it destroys a test cycle — and the answer is about the project calendar rather than a standing monthly slot. A REFRESH HELPS when the environment's data has diverged from production far enough to make testing unrepresentative, or before a rehearsal that needs current data — a migration rehearsal, a performance test, a cutover practice. Both are events with dates. A REFRESH DESTROYS A TEST CYCLE when it lands mid-UAT. Test data built to exercise scenarios is gone, part-completed test cases cannot be finished, and the configuration under test may have been replaced by production's older version. A UAT cycle interrupted by a refresh is usually restarted rather than resumed, and that is a week. A STANDING MONTHLY SLOT IS THE PATTERN THAT CAUSES THIS. It is set up for good reasons, it runs unattended, and it eventually lands in the middle of something
