The core build. Four profiles using four different criteria types, then tested by logging in as real users — which is the part people skip and should not. Manager hierarchy is the most common criteria type and the most misunderstood, and the misunderstanding lives in one field: levels. One level means direct reports only; two means their reports as well. And here is what happens on every project. You ask the client what a manager should see and they say "my team" — and to them that means everyone underneath them, the whole reporting line. A director saying "my team" is thinking of two hundred people. Configure one level and the director opens the system on day one, sees six people, and thinks it is broken. So ask it in a way that cannot be answered ambiguously: "if you have a manager who has a manager who has an employee,…
