The manufacturing calendar

The calendar defines working days and hours. It drives work order scheduling, lead times, and resource availability. A plant running a four-day week or a three-shift pattern must have that in the calendar, or every date the system produces is wrong — not approximately wrong, wrong, on every work order, forever. The design questions: what days does the plant work, what hours, what shifts, and what are the shutdown periods? Then build: create a calendar and set the pattern, define exceptions for holidays and the summer shutdown, generate the calendar forward, assign it to the organizations, and show a work order scheduling across a non-working day. Generate several years forward. A calendar that runs out causes scheduling to fail in a way that looks like a system fault — and it fails on the first working day of a year, to everybody at once.
