A cent lost per line is invisible per invoice and material per month. That is why numbers get their own lesson. ROUNDING VERSUS TRUNCATION IS THE FIRST DECISION AND THE ONE THAT COMPOUNDS. Rounding distributes the error in both directions and roughly cancels; truncation always loses in the same direction, so a hundred thousand lines lose consistently rather than randomly. Round unless somebody has told you in writing to truncate, and where money is involved that instruction should come from finance rather than from a developer's convenience. SCALE is the second. A source with four decimal places mapped into a target with two is a rounding decision made by the schema, silently, on every value. Know the scale on both sides before mapping any amount, and where they differ, say what happens to the difference. THE MINOR-UNIT QUESTION is the third and it is the one that produces the largest…
