Implementing Global HR: From Enterprise Model to Live Workforce · Module 13 · Document Records
Retention, archiving and purging
Lesson 132 of 175 · 11 min
Configure the archive behaviour for deleted document records, configure archiving and purging rules per type, run the archive process, show what archiving does and does not remove, then show the purge behaviour and its irreversibility. Purging is irreversible. Test in a non-production environment. That is said twice on purpose — once before it runs on screen and once after. Retention periods come from the client's legal advisers, per document type, per jurisdiction. Never set them yourself. And configure retention during implementation, not later. Retrofitting retention onto years of accumulated records is far harder than doing it at the start — and the accumulated records are themselves a risk in the meantime. Both halves matter; the second is what makes it urgent rather than merely tidy.
