Implementing Global HR: From Enterprise Model to Live Workforce · Module 12 · Seniority Dates
Fast formulas and overrides
Lesson 124 of 175 · 11 min
See where a fast formula extends seniority calculation beyond the configurable rules, walk a simple formula's structure without going deep into the language, attach it to a seniority attribute, then look at a manual seniority basis override on a worker and at the audit of that override. Formulas are the escape hatch. Use them when the configuration genuinely cannot express the rule — not because it is quicker. A formula is code somebody has to maintain, and the person maintaining it will not be you. Manual overrides handle acquisitions where prior service is contractually honoured. Legitimate and common — and every override needs a documented reason, because an undocumented one is indistinguishable from an error. And full formula coverage is out of scope here. Better to say so than to half-teach a language.
