Implementing Project Portfolio Management: From Organization Structure to Recognized Revenue · Module 8 · Resource Breakdown Structures
Adding planning resources
Lesson 85 of 198 · 13 min
Add labour resources using a job format, then a role format, then an organization-qualified resource. Add an equipment resource from Module 5's nonlabor resources. Add a FINANCIAL resource for a lump-sum travel budget — and show it planning an amount with no quantity. Show the resulting hierarchy, and then show the resource list AS A PLANNER SEES IT. THAT LAST STEP IS THE USABILITY CHECK. Look at the planner's view and ask out loud whether this is a list somebody can work with. The financial resource demonstration is worth the time. It is the answer to "how do I just budget an amount?" — which every client asks. Resources can be added later; the structure of the hierarchy is harder to change.
