Implementing Project Portfolio Management: From Organization Structure to Recognized Revenue · Module 8 · Resource Breakdown Structures
Creating a reporting RBS
Lesson 87 of 198 · 12 min
Create a reporting resource breakdown structure. Build a deeper hierarchy reflecting the executive's questions from the workshop. Set the resource formats for reporting, assign the structure to a project type or project, show costs rolling up the reporting hierarchy — then show the SAME costs viewed through the planning structure, for contrast. THAT CONTRAST IS THE PAYOFF. The same actual costs, two different roll-ups, each serving a different audience. It is Lesson 4 made visible, and it is the image the module is remembered by. Assignment determines which projects roll up which way. Confirm the intended scope. Changing a reporting structure means resummarizing. Possible — and it means explaining a report that changed.
