Implementing Project Portfolio Management: From Organization Structure to Recognized Revenue · Module 8 · Resource Breakdown Structures

Proving the structure works

Lesson 88 of 198 · 10 min

Run the verification checklist. Build a small project plan against the planning structure — as a project manager would. Record an actual cost, show it mapping into the reporting structure, view the roll-up, then show a cost that FAILS to map, and diagnose it. THE MAPPING FAILURE IS THE ONE TO SEE. An actual cost with no home in the reporting structure lands in an unclassified bucket — and the executive report has a line called "other" that grows every month. Build the plan yourself, at planner speed. If it is awkward for you it is worse for them.
