Implementing Project Portfolio Management: From Organization Structure to Recognized Revenue · Module 7 · Project Types

Classifications

Lesson 72 of 198 · 11 min

Create class categories and class codes. Assign class categories to the project type — setting whether they are mandatory, and single or multiple. Show classifications on a project, show classification used as a report filter, and demonstrate the practice-differentiation solution from Lesson 3. THIS IS THE RELEASE VALVE. Everything the client wanted to express in a type or a project unit and should not — service line, region, client segment, funding source — lives here. That last demonstration closes a question opened in Module 3. Mandatory classifications enforce data quality at project creation. Use them for anything a report depends on — failure case six is a classification that exists and is blank on half the projects. Keep the class category list short, for the same reason as everything else in this course.
