Implementing Project Portfolio Management: From Organization Structure to Recognized Revenue · Module 12 · Project Costing: the Accounting Setup

Proving the accounting works

Lesson 129 of 198 · 12 min

Record a labour cost on the Meridian project and run cost processing. Open the resulting distribution and READ EVERY LINE ALOUD. Trace each account segment back to the rule that derived it. Record an expense cost of a different type and show a different account, show a burden transaction and its account, then create accounting and show the journal in the ledger. READING THE JOURNAL ALOUD AND TRACING EACH SEGMENT IS THE LESSON. This is the skill that lets a PPM consultant answer the controller's questions. Test at least three different transaction shapes. ONE WORKING TRANSACTION PROVES VERY LITTLE. The journal in the ledger is the deliverable. The cost-to-ledger map from Module 1 ends exactly here.
