Viewing and documenting the estate

Lesson 44 of 201 · 11 min

View all environments across the account and the information available per environment. Create a custom description for an environment, show it surfacing where users see it, and build the estate register alongside, on screen. CUSTOM ENVIRONMENT DESCRIPTIONS ARE THE CHEAPEST USABILITY WIN IN THE COURSE. A user who lands in a test environment and does not realize it will enter real data there. A visible description prevents it. Set one on every environment, immediately. The estate register is YOUR artifact, not the console's. Environment, business process, purpose, identity domain, region, owner, maintenance window, backup regime. Most clients do not have one; producing it makes you immediately useful. Update it when environments change. AN OUT-OF-DATE REGISTER IS WORSE THAN NONE.
