Vanity URLs

Lesson 46 of 201 · 11 min

What a vanity URL is and what problem it solves, the prerequisites — the certificate and DNS work, and who does it — then configuring one, showing it resolving, and showing the effect on bookmarks and on Smart View connections. Users cannot modify the standard URL, and the standard URL is not memorable. Vanity URLs are the answer; bookmarks are the cheap alternative. The prerequisites involve certificate and DNS work OUTSIDE EPM. That is another team and another lead time. Start early or do not promise it. CHECK THE EFFECT ON CLIENT CONNECTIONS BEFORE ROLLING IT OUT. Smart View connections, EPM Automate scripts and integrations all reference URLs. Changing the front door without checking what is pointing at it produces a bad Monday.
