Implementing Cloud Financials: From Empty Pod to Go-Live · Module 5 · Legal Entities and Business Units

Legal jurisdictions and authorities

Lesson 50 of 153 · 9 min

A short walkthrough. Review the delivered jurisdictions for one country, create an identifying jurisdiction for a second, create a legal authority — the tax or registration body — and look at registration codes and where they surface on documents. The jurisdiction must exist before the legal entity, because the entity registers into a jurisdiction rather than the other way round. Getting the order wrong is the commonest reason legal entity creation fails on a first attempt. This drives statutory reporting and it appears on printed documents, so get the registration numbers right the first time: they are printed on invoices going to your client's customers, and correcting them afterwards means reissuing paperwork rather than editing a field. And some countries need more than one jurisdiction — income tax registration and VAT registration are separate things in many places.
