Building an analysis

The mechanics, quickly, so the rest of the module can be about judgement. The criteria tab is where the analysis is defined: columns dragged from the subject area, filters applied to them, sorts set, and formulas written where a derived value is needed. The results tab is where it is presented — table, pivot, chart, or several views on one analysis. Filters are where most of the meaning lives, and two distinctions are worth learning at the start. A filter on a DIMENSION restricts which rows are considered; a filter applied after aggregation restricts which totals are shown, and the two give different answers on the same data. And a filter with a PROMPTED value becomes a question the reader answers rather than a decision you baked in, which is what makes an analysis reusable.
