Real-time versus reported figures

OTBI reads LIVE TRANSACTIONAL DATA. Not a nightly copy, not a warehouse — the same rows the application is writing to as you look. What that means for a figure quoted in a meeting: it was true at the moment it was rendered and it may not be true now. Somebody approved an invoice while the slide was being written. That is not an error and it is not a reason to distrust the tool, but it does mean a number in a document needs a timestamp beside it. WHY IT CAN DISAGREE WITH A REPORT RUN AN HOUR EARLIER WITHOUT EITHER BEING WRONG. Three causes, in order of frequency. The clock — an hour of transactions happened.
