This lesson is not about the product. It is about the room, and about four failures common enough to be predictable. The parties: client HR, who own the process; client IT, who own the infrastructure and usually the security decisions; and the implementation partner. Plus one that does not appear on a finance project at all — works councils and unions. In several jurisdictions, employee representative bodies have formal consultation rights over systems that affect employees. Not a courtesy: a legal right, with a process and a timeline. The team shape is typically a core HR lead, a payroll lead if payroll is in scope, a security lead, a data lead, an integration lead, and change and training.
