Direct delivery receives straight into the destination subinventory: one step, fastest, no intermediate control. Standard receipt receives into a receiving area, then puts away as a separate step, giving control over where things end up and a staging area. Inspection required receives, inspects, then accepts or rejects before putaway. How to choose. Direct for trusted, high-volume, low-risk material. Standard where the dock and the stores are physically separate. Inspection for quality-critical, regulated, or new-supplier material. Routing can be set at several levels — organization default, item, supplier. The supplier level is the one people do not know exists, and it is exactly right for "new supplier, inspect everything for six months". Then build all three routings, set an item to require inspection, and show the resulting behaviour difference on receipt.
