Cost scenarios

Lesson 164 of 188 · 10 min

Open Cost Accounting, and from the Tasks pane Manage Cost Scenarios under Cost and Profit Planning. Create a scenario — name, cost organization, cost book, effective as-of date, scenario type — explain what the scenario scopes, create a second scenario for what-if analysis, then save and review. A scenario is a sandbox for costs. You build costs in it, roll them up, look at the result, and only publish when you are happy. Nothing affects live valuation until you update. Use separate scenarios for the annual standard and for what-if analysis. Do not overwrite the live one while experimenting. The effective date matters — it determines which structure and work definition versions the roll-up uses. That is one of the failure cases, and it is a date field nobody looks at twice.
