Implementing Manufacturing and Materials Management: From Empty Plant to Costed Work Order · Module 16 · Cost Planning
Updating and publishing costs
Lesson 170 of 188 · 11 min
From the scenario Actions menu, run update costs. It publishes the scenario's costs to cost accounting, so they become the live valuation basis. Monitor, show the published costs against items, show a transaction being valued at the new standard, and show what happens to inventory already on hand — the revaluation consequence. Update costs is the commit. Before it, you are in a sandbox. After it, every transaction uses these numbers. Standard cost updates revalue existing inventory. That is an accounting event with a P&L consequence, and Finance must know it is happening and when. Never run this without telling the controller. Publish at a period boundary wherever possible.
