The single idea that explains most confusing behaviour Most HCM records are date-effective. They are not a single row that gets overwritten; they are a series of versions, each valid between a start and an end date. When you look at a record you are always looking at it as of some date, whether or not you chose that date consciously. Once this lands, a whole category of "the system is wrong" reports resolves into "the system was asked a different question than the user thought". A promotion that "did not save" usually saved perfectly — effective from next month, while the screen is showing today.
