Why an administrator needs to understand licensing

Licensing looks like a procurement problem and is repeatedly an administrator problem. The person who discovers the entitlement gap is almost always the one trying to create an environment or add a user. Three ways it surfaces. You cannot create the environment you were asked for, because the subscription does not include it. You hit a record or user ceiling mid-implementation. A business process the client assumed was included turns out to be a separate purchase. None of these is your fault and all of them land on your desk. Each costs weeks. Knowing the shape of the entitlement lets you raise it in week one — which is the difference between a question and a crisis. Read the subscription before the kickoff. Ask for the order document.
