Person search and keywords

Person search uses a keyword index, not a live table scan, and that index is built by a process. Understanding that one fact explains most search complaints. What goes into keywords — names, numbers and selected attributes — is configurable. And the staleness problem follows directly: a newly hired or renamed worker is not searchable until the keyword process runs. So schedule it. Then the build: configure which attributes are indexed, run the keyword update process, and search before and after, which is the demonstration that makes the concept concrete. Then the optimisation settings, the HCM search views for the job and person search pages, and the directory and org chart lookups that control what appears publicly. Schedule the keyword process at a sensible frequency: too infrequent and HR complains, too frequent and it is load for nothing. And note that search is the most-used feature in the whole system…
