Work center resources and capacity
Lesson 91 of 188 · 14 min
Assign resources to a work center, set units available — how many of that resource this work center has — set the resource as available 24 hours or calendar-driven, set efficiency and utilization percentages and explain the difference, show the resulting available capacity calculation, then change a shift pattern and show capacity change. Efficiency and utilization are two different reductions and clients conflate them. Utilization is how much of the available time the resource is actually running. Efficiency is how fast it runs compared to standard. Both reduce effective capacity, multiplicatively — which is why two innocuous-looking percentages produce a number that surprises people. Do the multiplication on screen. Units available is where a work center with three identical machines is modelled without creating three work centers. That is the answer to the granularity question, and it is the thing that lets you model coarsely without losing capacity accuracy. Capacity…
