Completion, scrap and rework

Complete the work order at the final operation, show finished goods received into the completion subinventory and on-hand increasing. Scrap a quantity at an intermediate operation, with a reason, and show the cost consequence of scrapping mid-route versus at the start. Create a non-standard rework work order for a rejected unit, and complete a work order for less than the planned quantity to show the treatment. Scrap at operation 50 costs more than scrap at operation 10, because value has been added. That is the argument for reporting scrap at the operation where it happens rather than in a batch at the end. Scrap reasons feed quality analysis. Make them meaningful and mandatory. Rework as a non-standard work order is the standard pattern — very common and rarely taught.
