Implementing Project Portfolio Management: From Organization Structure to Recognized Revenue · Module 5 · Expenditure Types, Nonlabor Resources and Project Roles
Nonlabor resources
Lesson 52 of 198 · 13 min
Create a nonlabor resource — a piece of equipment. Associate it with an expenditure type, assign it to organizations, create a second resource of a different kind, show a usage transaction consuming it, and show the rate connection, forward-referencing Module 6. Nonlabor resources are how you charge equipment, facilities and other non-people costs to projects at a rate. ORGANIZATION ASSIGNMENT DETERMINES WHO CAN CHARGE THEM. A resource not assigned to an organization cannot be used by it — failure case four. Common in engineering, construction and lab environments; less so in pure consultancy. Scope honestly, and skip it where it will never be used rather than covering it at length for an audience that has no equipment.
