Calendar events and the geographic hierarchy

A calendar event is a non-working day or a special day applied to a population — public holidays, company shutdowns, regional observances. Who does this event apply to? That is the only interesting question in this lesson, and there are two ways to answer it. Coverage by geographic hierarchy, built from the geographies you configured back in Module 3, says this holiday applies to workers in this region. Coverage by organization handles company-specific events, like a shutdown affecting one division. And coverage overrides and exceptions exist for when one population needs different treatment from the rest of its group. Now the requirement clients do not mention. Regional public holidays are common, and clients often do not raise them until go-live — not because they are hiding it, but because to the person in the room the regional holiday is so obvious that it does not occur to them to say…
