An operation performed by a supplier. Material leaves the plant, gets processed, comes back and continues through the route — plating, heat treatment, painting, specialist machining. What makes it different: it involves Procurement. The operation generates a requisition or purchase order, and the supplier's charge becomes part of the product cost. The items involved include an outside processing item representing the service purchased. The visibility problem. Material sitting at a supplier is yours, it is on your balance sheet, and it is not in your building.
