Multi-level structures and phantoms

Build a sub-assembly structure, add it as a component of the finished good, view the multi-level and indented views. Configure a phantom item and show how it behaves — blown through rather than built — then show where phantoms help and where they confuse, and show the where-used view from a component upward. Phantoms are a modelling convenience that clients either love or find baffling. They represent a grouping that is never actually stocked. Use them where the plant genuinely never holds the sub-assembly. Do not use them to tidy up a structure — that is how a phantom ends up representing something that does sit on a shelf. Where-used is the impact analysis tool. Engineering will use it constantly, and it is also how you trace a circular reference. Multi-level structures drive multi-level cost rollup in the cost planning module.
