Two kinds of plan

The project plan is the schedule-and-effort view. Tasks, durations, assigned resources, dependencies. The project manager's plan. The financial plan is the money view. Budgets and forecasts, by resource, by period. Why both exist and how they relate. The project plan can generate a financial plan. A financial plan can exist without a detailed schedule. In some implementations they are tightly linked. In others, deliberately not. The project plan type governs project plan behaviour — task settings, progress settings, the planning RBS used. The financial plan type governs budget and forecast behaviour — plan class, generation, currency, rates, approval. TIGHT LINKAGE MEANS THE FORECAST UPDATES FROM THE SCHEDULE. LOOSE LINKAGE MEANS TWO THINGS TO MAINTAIN AND TWO VERSIONS OF THE TRUTH. How tightly you link them determines how much work a project manager does and how reliable the forecast is.
