Every employment change is an action. Hire, promote, transfer, terminate, change working hours. The action names what happened; the action reason explains why. That is the whole model, and it takes ten seconds to state. What it drives is why this is a concept lesson rather than a field on a form. Actions drive four things: the flow the user sees, the approval routing, the reporting, and in some cases downstream module behaviour in parts of the product you are not implementing. So a decision that feels like naming a dropdown value is actually shaping the user experience, the control environment and the analytics at once. Now the argument to make to HR leadership, because you will need to. Termination — Resignation — Better Opportunity. Termination — Resignation — Relocation. Same action, same category, completely different management response. "Better opportunity" is a retention and reward question; "relocation" mostly is not.…
