Period close and what breaks

Lesson 117 of 188 · 14 min

Show the inventory accounting period status, review pending transactions before closing, close the period, attempt a transaction in the closed period and show the failure, reopen — and explain when that is appropriate and when it is not — then show the relationship to the cost accounting period. Then seven cases. One. "I cannot transact — the period is closed." Check the period status first, always; it is the cheapest check in the module and the answer surprisingly often. Two. "On-hand is negative." Backflush consuming material that was never received, or transactions out of sequence — investigate via transaction history; it usually points at a receiving gap. Three. "Available is far below on-hand and nobody knows why." Stale reservations from cancelled work orders, arriving as a mystery. Four. "Count variances are huge every cycle." Usually a process problem, not a system one — look at unrecorded movements and backflush accuracy
