Implementing Global HR: From Enterprise Model to Live Workforce · Module 6 · Jobs and Positions
FTE, work hours and workday defaults
Lesson 64 of 175 · 11 min
Configure workday information defaults at enterprise, legal employer and department level, then watch the defaulting cascade down to position and assignment. Demonstrate the FTE calculation from working hours and frequency, change standard hours at one level and see the downstream effect, then look at a part-time position and its FTE. FTE is calculated, not typed, and clients get this wrong constantly. Show the arithmetic explicitly — hours divided by the standard week — rather than pointing at the result. The cascade means a change at enterprise level ripples. Understand it before changing anything on a live system: this is one of the places where a single field edit reaches thousands of records. And different countries have different standard weeks, which is exactly what the cascade is for — set them at legal employer level. That is the legal structure from two modules ago paying off.
