Implementing Global HR: From Enterprise Model to Live Workforce · Module 6 · Jobs and Positions
Creating positions
Lesson 63 of 175 · 13 min
Create a position from a job and watch the attributes default. Set headcount, FTE, department, location and grade. Set the parent position. Create a position profile, associate action reasons with a role, and create a shared position with headcount above one. Then look at effective-dated position changes and the incumbent view. Attribute defaulting from the job is what makes positions maintainable. Configure the job well and the position is three fields; configure it badly and every position is twenty. That is the visible payoff for the catalogue lesson. Headcount versus FTE: a position with headcount 2 and FTE 1.5 is two part-time seats. Clients need this explained, usually twice. And every position needs a parent, or the hierarchy has orphans — which is one of the failures later in this module, and it is silent.
