Review the delivered templates, create one for purchased parts, one for manufactured parts — setting make-or-buy, planning and costing attributes — and one for finished goods. Apply two templates to one item and show the layering, then show a template applied at creation. Templates are the highest-return small feature in this module. A good template means creating an item is five fields instead of fifty, and it makes consistency automatic rather than aspirational. Templates can be layered. Useful, and easy to make confusing — document the intended combinations. Build the templates the client will actually use, then have a data steward test creating items with them before go-live. A template designed by a consultant and never used by a steward is a template that is wrong in a way nobody has noticed.
