Item statuses and lifecycle phases

Review the delivered statuses and the attributes each controls. Create a custom status — one that permits transacting but not purchasing, for example — apply it to an item and demonstrate the restriction. Then show lifecycle phases and the difference from status, and a phase-out scenario: an item moving from production to obsolete. Status is functional control; lifecycle phase is descriptive. Same shape of confusion as class-versus-category earlier in this module, so make the distinction explicit. Obsolescence handling is a real client requirement that is usually raised late. The common pattern: a status that blocks new purchasing while allowing existing stock to be consumed.
