Implementing Manufacturing and Materials Management: From Empty Plant to Costed Work Order · Module 7 · Items and the Item Model
Assigning items to organizations
Lesson 71 of 188 · 11 min
Show that a newly created item exists only in the master. Attempt a transaction in Plant A and show the failure. Assign the item to Plant A via item mass changes, show organization-level attributes now editable and different from master, assign a second item plus its structure to both plants, submit the process and monitor it, then retry the transaction and show success. The before-and-after transaction is the lesson. "Item does not exist in this organization" is one of the most common early support tickets, and it means exactly this. The failure, then the fix, then the success — in that order, uncut. Structures move with items when assigned. Mass assignment is the practical path. Nobody assigns items one at a time.
