Two hours. Read this twice. Halden makes marine deck equipment. The catalogue splits into purchased components — fasteners, bearings, hydraulic parts, electrical — raw materials, steel plate and bar, bought by weight and consumed by length or piece; manufactured sub-components made at Skien; finished assemblies made at Bergen; and a small spare parts range sold directly. Engineering holds the design attributes and must be the only group able to change them. The commercial team maintains descriptions and sales attributes. Both teams currently edit the same spreadsheet and complain about each other. Legacy part numbers are eight characters, intelligent — the first two characters indicate the product family. Everyone on the shop floor knows them. Engineering has wanted to abandon the scheme for years.
