Creating the item master organization

Create an inventory organization intended as the item master, assign the location and the business unit, set the parameters appropriate to a non-transacting master, point the organization's item master reference at itself, and verify. Do this first, before any other organization. Every organization you create afterwards points at it. Name it unambiguously — something a new starter reading a report will recognise as the master, not as a plant. It normally holds no stock. Configure it accordingly and tell people not to transact in it. Both halves: the configuration and the instruction.
