Implementing Manufacturing and Materials Management: From Empty Plant to Costed Work Order · Module 4 · Inventory Organizations and Plants
Locators
Lesson 40 of 188 · 10 min
Configure locator control at organization and subinventory level, create locators using a segment structure — aisle, rack, bin — show dynamic locator creation and when to allow it, show an item-level override, then transact into a locator and show the on-hand detail. Locator control is a real operational commitment. Every put-away and every pick asks for a locator. If the warehouse will not maintain it, do not enable it — half-maintained locator data is worse than none, because people trust it until it is wrong once. Match the locator naming to the physical labels on the racks. If the rack says A-12-3, the system says A-12-3. One of this module's failure cases is what happens when it does not. Dynamic creation is convenient and produces uncontrolled locator lists. Prefer predefined for a stable warehouse.
